The Teacher Education Council (TEC) moves forward with its plans to establish the Teacher Education Excellence Center (TEEC), a major initiative designed to strengthen the quality and welfare of teachers nationwide.
On May 21, 2025, TEC Executive Director V Dr. Jennie Jocson met with Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman to further solidify the vision, development timeline, and proposed 2026 budget for the Center. The meeting follows initial discussions held in April and marks a significant step toward the Center’s formal launch.
“Our government is listening, especially to the plea of our teachers,” said Pangandaman. “I believe this is the least we can do to honor their invaluable and dedicated service. This is in line with fulfilling President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s commitment to uplift teachers’ welfare.”
The TEEC is envisioned as a national hub for teacher education innovation, integrating research, training, and development into a unified strategic platform. Pursuant to Republic Act 11713, which strengthened TEC’s mandate, the Center will pilot and model evidence-based programs to improve the professional growth and well-being of teachers, school leaders, and education workers.
TEEC will likewise include contextualized and inclusive programs for other educator populations such as child development workers, multigrade teachers, technical-vocational (tech-voc) instructors, and leaders in teacher education institutions (TEIs).
With its official launch expected later this year and full implementation targeted for 2026, the TEEC will serve as TEC’s mechanism to translate policy into practical and high-impact solutions. It will be developed through evidence-based research and will explore cutting-edge practices in curriculum innovation, specialized pedagogy, and emerging content areas to ensure relevance in a changing educational landscape.
This intention reflects the DepEd Secretary and TEC Chairperson Sonny Angara’s commitment to promoting teacher excellence in his speech earlier this year. “Education is a long game—a series of investments that will pay dividends toward a more prosperous nation. Kapag mahusay ang guro, siguradong maganda ang resulta para sa kabataan at sa bansa,” said Secretary Angara, emphasizing the impact of teacher excellence on national development.
The Council is currently refining its development roadmap and budget strategy to ensure the center is positioned for success from the outset.
