About the Teacher Education Council

The Teacher Education Council (TEC) was created in 1994 through the Republic Act (RA) 7784. RA 7784 was among the five laws enacted following the recommendations of the first Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM) in its 1991 report entitled “Making Education Work: An Agenda for Reform” to address the declining quality of education. The Council was further strengthened in 2022 through Republic Act No. 11713.

TEC drives major teacher education reforms

Manila, Philippines – Senator Sherwin Gatchalian underscored the authority of the Teacher Education Council (TEC) on everything about teacher education, including coordination among its member agencies, during the first oversight hearing on the status of implementation of Republic Act 11713 on December 18.

The Teacher Education Council is stepping up its efforts to improve teacher training and education programs across the Philippines. “Our goal is to make teacher education a strong foundation for our country’s development,” says Dr. Jennie Jocson, Executive Director V of TEC.

TEC launches the pre-service teacher education curriculum review

TEC Covid-19 Colloquy Series

The Teacher Education Council (TEC) approved the proposed pre-service teacher education curriculum review design, including timeline, during its 3rd Quarterly Meeting (QM), October 9, 2024.

As stipulated in section 8 (c) of the Republic Act 11713, otherwise known as the Excellence in Teacher Education Act, TEC will “set and mandate basic requirements for teacher education programs… It shall likewise ensure that such minimum requirements are implemented by the CHED.”

The Teacher Education Council (TEC) through the initiative of the TEC Regular Members headed by Dr. Allan de Guzman, the Zonal Representative for Luzon will conduct series of online sessions for both pre service teachers and in service teachers. The webinar series was entitled “TEC Covid-19 Colloquy Series” with a theme of “Understanding 21st Century Democracy” for in service teachers and “Teacher Education Noticing Behavior During Covid -19 Pandemic (Mindfulness, Decision – Making and Adaptation)” for pre service teachers. The colloquy series will commence this August 2020 and will end on January 2021.
