As part of its continued commitment to leading the development of teacher education programs, the Teacher Education Council (TEC) convened a series of alignment meetings this May to consult with specialists and chart the direction for reframing the curricula of the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAEd), Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd), and Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) programs.
Specialists were composed of professors, researchers, and academic leaders from different institutions such as the University of the Philippines (UP), University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P), University of Santo Tomas (UST), Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela (PLV), Philippine Normal University (PNU), University of Makati (UMak), and Philippine High School for the Arts. The Department of Education (DepEd) Bureau of Curriculum Development was also present.
They have shared key insights, including the varying levels of institutional readiness, existing regional disparities in educational resources, and the need for faculty upskilling, increased field exposure for students, and support mechanisms to ensure that teacher training directly translates to effective classroom practice. With these inputs, the council is now more equipped to shape teacher education to be both nationally aligned and locally responsive.
The curriculum reframing is TEC’s response to the crucial need to ensure that teacher training remains aligned with evolving classroom realities. It also responds to longstanding teaching challenges–content gaps, mismatches in teacher specialization, and the need for programs to keep pace with the dynamic education policies and reforms.
These consultations are vital to the next phase in the overall curriculum reframing process. Ultimately, TEC aims for reframed programs that are not only future-ready but also practical and implementable across diverse learning environments.
Additionally, TEC stressed that the current consultations for BCAEd, BPEd, and BEEd programs are the beginning of a larger and unified effort in the education sector. Further consultations across other teacher education specializations are underway, with other groups scheduled to be convened within June.
The Council encourages the public to share their insights, questions, or suggestions on curriculum reframing by messaging or commenting on TEC’s Facebook page.
