The Teacher Education Council (TEC) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) discussed today, April 4, the potential establishment of Teacher Education Excellence Centers aimed at supporting all stakeholders of teacher education across the country.

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman and DepEd Secretary and TEC Chairperson Sonny Angara jointly directed this initiative to support one of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s priorities to support educators.

In the President’s 2024 State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Marcos said, “As we build and upgrade schools, so too must we uplift and upskill our teachers, whose competence and trademark Filipino patience, determination, and compassion will be at the core of our national learning recovery.”

The TEC is set to spearhead this initiative and focus on a broader scope of educators, catering to education leaders, including deans of colleges of education, teachers of teachers, para-teachers including child development workers in child development centers, among others.

These centers will be strategically located across the Philippines. More details about the operationalization of these centers will be released soon.
